Closing the Gap: High Achievement for Students of Color

Abstract

Despite half a century of efforts to improve educational opportunities for African American students and other minorities, a large achievement gap perists . This concise report from the American Educational Research Association summarizes several programs that have been able to narrow the gap and filters out the two most important traits in successful equity reform efforts: a demanding curriculum and a strong social support system that values and promotes academic achievement.
