I majored in behavioral biology for my undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University. After taking a class in behavioral medicine, I became interested in promoting health awareness in children because most habits are formed during childhood. I went on to pursue a master degree in public health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, focusing on maternal and child health, and health communication. As part of my health communications class, my group and I planned, launched, promoted and evaluated a health campaign that promoted proper coughing etiquette (i.e., how to do the "elbow cough") to prevent the spread of germs. The Story behind the Sleeve video is one of the promotional materials they developed. Before joining the Society, I worked for the Maryland State Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and participated in the evaluation of their Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program. I also worked at the Children's Environmental Health Network (CEHN), a non-profit organization in Washington D.C., where I provided administrative and programmatic support for their child care training project.
