BIO

I earned my A.B.in chemistry from Bryn Mawr College with additional coursework in developmental biology. My Ph.D. was awarded in MCD Biology from the University of Colorado where my thesis work was on rat mammary tumor biology. I was a Post-doc in fruit fly developmental genetics at Johns Hopkins University and then became a Staff Fellow at the National Cancer Institute returning to research on tumor developmental biology. From 1985 to 1999 I was a Teacher and Life Science and Biotechnology Lab Director at Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Technology and from 1999-2001 was Outreach Coordinator for the Fralin Biotechnology Center at Virginia Tech. I returned to DC in 2001 to join the DC ACTS (CASE, AAAS, DCPS) Project in Secondary Science. I continue to work in DC Public Schools as co-Director for CASE. CASE provides professional development for DC teachers pre-K through 12 and operates First Light, a Saturday Science School for DC Middle School Students. Our major project is DCBiotech: Improving Opportunities for Urban Minority Students NSF-ATE-DUE 0603415, for which I am PI.
On behalf of NABT I am serving as coPI of the GENA Project NSF-MSP-RETA 0634297.
