Donna Whiting

BIO

Donna Whiting has extensive experience as a K-12 STEM educator. For the past 25 years, she has led numerous teacher education, curriculum development, and community engagement projects. Dr. Whiting began her STEM teaching career in the Detroit Public Schools and relocated to Atlanta in 1989, where she spent five years teaching mathematics and science in the Atlanta Public Schools. For the past 20 years, Dr. Whiting has worked at the Georgia Tech Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC). In her current position as Associate Director for Teacher Education Partnerships, Dr. Whiting is responsible for proposal development and designing, managing, and evaluating K-12 teacher education and community engagement partnerships. She served as Project Director on Georgia Tech's Race to the Top partnership with the Georgia Department of Education. Dr. Whiting currently serves as Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator on numerous projects, including as PI on AmeriCorps: CEISMC Mentoring Program, funded by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and co-PI on iCS (Integrating Computer Science), a $1.2 million project funded by a National Science Foundation ITEST grant. Dr. Whiting has developed and conducted numerous K-12 STEM workshops for teachers and students. She teaches Contemporary and Critical Issues in Education, a course offered through the Georgia Tech Center for Teaching and Learning (CETL). Dr. Whiting received a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Detroit Mercy and a Ph.D. in Middle School Education from the University of Georgia. She is certified in mathematics, science, and instructional supervision. Dr. Whiting's research interests focus on STEM teaching and learning at the middle school level.
