Anita Buckley-Commander

BIO

Dr. Commander is the Director of Classroom Improvement. Within this section is the responsibility for and overall planning and coordination of curriculum, state courses of study, textbook adoption, assessment, research, the Alabama Leadership Academy, the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative, and technical assistant to schools that are on priority status. She also has planned and coordinated the implementation of State Department of Education service delivery teams as recommended in the 21st Century Project Team Report to the State Superintendent of Education. This report from the business community was an examination of the State Department of Education and recommended organizational restructuring and more efficient service delivery to local school systems.

She has spent her career in education and has served as teacher, research librarian, director of a business-education partnership program, local and state trainer for the statewide teacher evaluation program, principal, education policy advisor, policy analyst, and director of a private-nonprofit organization with a budget of 15 million dollars.

Anita holds an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Vanderbilt University, an MLS from Louisiana State University and a BS from the University of Alabama.
