Betty Winches

Dr. Betty Winches serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for the Homewood City School District in Homewood, Alabama. In that capacity, she directs the entire K-12 instructional program. Dr. Winches also directs the recruitment, selection, induction, and evaluation of all certified personnel. Other duties include strategic planning, research, grant writing, assessment, and coordination of the district's accountability efforts. She also serves as the ADA/504 Coordinator for Homewood Schools.

Dr. Winches is currently in her 39th year as an educator in the state of Alabama. She has served as an elementary classroom teacher, a middle school language arts teacher, a guidance counselor, a psychometrist, a middle school assistant principal, and a district level instructional support coordinator. She has been an adjunct professor for Samford University in the university's graduate program in Educational Leadership. Dr. Winches has special training and expertise in the areas of strategic planning, multiple intelligences, and differentiated instruction. She was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Alabama Superintendent Preparation Program. She is also affiliated with the National Staff Development Council, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Alabama Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Alabama Association of School Personnel Administrators, the Alabama Association of School Administrators, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, and the Alabama Association of 504/ADA Coordinators.
