Area of Expertise:
Dr. Xiaodong Zhang is a senior study director with 10 years of experience in education and methodological research, and program evaluation. He has strong skills in research design; statistical analysis using techniques such as regression analysis, hierarchical linear modeling, and factor analysis; and qualitative approaches such as survey, interviews and case study. Dr. Zhang's research has covered elementary, secondary and postsecondary education, specifically in the areas of reading, mathematics and science learning, teacher preparation and compensation, assessment and accountability, as well as large and small scale system educational reforms. At Westat, Dr. Zhang has been a project director and task leader for a variety of projects in education research funded by federal, state and local governments, as well as private foundations. In earlier work as a senior program officer at the Chinese Ministry of Education, he was involved in policymaking and program management at the national level and worked with public and private education organizations in North America.
