Mark Peyrot

UMBC-BCPS STEM Project (Evaluator)

BIO:
MARK PEYROT received his Ph.D. in Sociology from UCLA and served a postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral science at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Social and Community Research at Loyola College. He is also on the research faculty in the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. Much of his research and consulting has dealt with the evaluation of health and human services. His publications include book chapters and articles in such journals as Diabetes Educator, Evaluation and Program Planning, International Journal of Addictions, International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy, Journal of Advertising Research, J of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Drug Education, J of Health and Social Behavior, J of Health Care Marketing, J of Public Policy and Marketing, J of Sociology and Social Welfare, Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, and Sociological Practice Review. He has received grants from the National Science Foundation, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and the American Diabetes Association, among others. He has served as chair of the Health, Health Policy and Health Services Division and the Community Research and Development Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, and on the Council of the Medical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association. Within the American Diabetes Association he has served on the Education Program Recognition Committee, the Task Force on the Delivery of Diabetes Education and Medical Nutrition Therapy, the Scientific Session Program and as chair and vice-chair of the Behavioral Medicine and Psychology Council. He recently served on the Outcomes Task Force and as chair of the Research Committee of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. He has served on NIH review panels and as a consulting reviewer for numerous sociology and medical journals. In addition to consulting with educational and service delivery organizations, he does public speaking for audiences of service providers and educators.
