Editor, The BioQUEST Library, 1993-(an electronic academic journal of BioQUEST modules). PI, BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium (Quality Undergraduate Educational Simulations and Tools in Biology) (1986-2005)- a national consortium of over 100 college biology educators and computer software developers who are producing biological curricular materials under the auspices of the Annenberg Fund/Corporation for Public Broadcasting, 1986-1990; National Science Foundation, 1991-2005; Howard Hughes Medical Institute, 1991-2004; Education Outreach and Training - Partnership for Advanced Computing Infrastructure (EOT-PACI), 1998-2003. The BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium received two EDUCOM Higher Education Software Awards for a "Distinguished Natural Sciences Curriculum Innovation" in 1992 and for the "Genetics Construction Kit" in 1993. It has been chosen as a Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) "Model Program" of science education that works in 1993. Both Science and the Chronicle of Higher Education have run feature articles on BioQUEST.

Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), elected 1998.

Member, Committee on Undergraduate Science Education, National Research Council, 2002-2005. Previously member of two task forces: Committee on Information Technology and Committee on Advanced Biology Education. Also, presenter at Life Sciences Board meetings; Bio 2010; and Biocomplexity Research and Education as well as planning committee member on Cold Spring Harbor-type workshops for research faculty.
