BIO

Susan Mundry, Deputy Director of Learning Innovations and Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) at WestEd has been helping teachers, principals, and administrators become more effective leaders for over 20 years. Susan works in the Boston-area office of WestEd. She is currently the project director for a Nellie Mae Educational Foundation project to provide technical assistance to support schools and districts n New England to create student-centered learning environments. She also directs the agency's National Leadership Academy, providing professional development and support for education leaders nationwide. Susan is the Lead Evaluator for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Math-Science Partnership program in Earth and Space Science at the Pennsylvania State University. She also serves as a Senior Researcher for the Regional Education Laboratory-Northeast & Islands where she has co-authored studies on teacher quality involving secondary analyses of large data bases and systematic document review and is an evaluator for the Intel Mathematics Initiative. She recently was a Principal Investigator for two NSF projects on teacher development and is currently designing the professional development program for the IES-funded National Center for Cognition and Mathematics Instruction at WestEd.
Mundry is an author of several books, book chapters, articles and the co-developer of two acclaimed simulation games on educational change. She coauthored: The Data Coach's Guide to Improving Learning for all Students: Unleashing the Power of Collaborative Inquiry; Designing Effective Professional Development for Teachers of Science and Mathematics; Professional Learning Communities for Science Teaching and Leading Every Day: 124 Action for Effective Leadership, which received a Book of the Year Award from Learning Forward.
