Stephanie Preston (SD Preston)

Stephanie Danette Preston - (Ph.D., Curriculum & Instruction/Secondary Education) received her B.S. in Biology and her M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction (Science Education) at Xavier University of Louisiana and taught high school biology, chemistry, and human anatomy & physiology in New Orleans for four years. She completed her Ph.D. at The Pennsylvania State University in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in science education; her work focused on the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities and women in STEM fields. She has also conducted research on the potential benefits of a science research experience (i.e., SEEMS/SEECoS) in recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in science, by focusing on engagement in authentic science research experiences within a learning community that develops throughout a summer research program.

As a member of The Pennsylvania State University ESSP team Stephanie is a member of the Energy workshop and research team, Plate Tectonics research team, and co-developed the SEEMS/SEECoS pedagogical development sessions. Her current work centers on understanding what students know about Earth and Mineral Science at varying grade levels and across regions of Pennsylvania.
