BIO

Dirk Baron holds a doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Oregon Graduate Institute (now Oregon Health and Science University). His main area of expertise is the behavior of toxic trace elements such as chromium and arsenic in pristine and contaminated subsurface environments. He is also a registered professional geologist in the state of California. He is currently a professor of geology and the chair of the Department of Physics and Geology at CSU Bakersfield.

Dr. Baron has long-standing interests and engagement in science education and K-12 outreach activities. He was the principal investigator for a four-year grant from the NSF Opportunities for Enhancing Diversity in the Geosciences program and is the principal investigator for the current NSP MSP project at CSU Bakersfield and the Kern High School District. He is also a co-PI on a current NSF Noyce grant at CSUB.
