BIO

I am an Assistant Professor in the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research and have a status-only co-appointment in Department of Medical Genetics and Microbiology. I joined the University of Toronto in May 2006, coming from the Stanford Genome Technology Center . At Stanford, I co-directed the chemical genomics laboratory with my wife, and better half, Dr. Guri Giaever. Together, with the help of Bob St. Onge our Stanford Project Manager, we developed many of the assays described here. We have been fortunate to have secured several years of continuous grant support from the National Human Genome Research Institute within the NIH, and from the Canadian Institute for Health Research. My current interests include; 1) using model organisms to understand the mechanism of action of human therapeutics, 2) using high-throughput cell biology to investigate drug synergy, and 3) developing technologies for understanding the relationship between chromatin structure and transcriptional regulation. We are a collaborative group and have been lucky to work with many fantastic labs.
