Audience:
All MSPs invited to attend

Description:
The ACCLAIM Center for Learning and Teaching will host a faculty
symposium on October 10 and 11 in West Liberty, Kentucky. This is a
continuation of our efforts to share our experience and progress on
courses for doctoral students in mathematics education, with a
particular emphasis on distance learning. We intend this to be of
particular interest to faculty members who are involved in, thinking
about, (or perhaps wary of) the teaching of distance learning courses
in mathematics and mathematics education.s to a cohort of doctoral
students in mathematics education. The atmosphere will be informal,
with opportunities for dialogue and discussion. The list of topics of
discussion includes:

o Teaching to a (geographical scattered) cohort
o The rural context
o Connections between/across courses within a doctoral program
o Summary of research on distance education
o ACCLAIM's guidelines for instructors of distance education courses
o Effective use of Centra (a distance learning tool)
o Support for faculty--course development and delivery
