Event: Enacting Standards for Mathematical Practices Conference

Oct 21, 2011
Oct 22, 2011

University of Nebraska-Lincoln

You are cordially invited to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Enacting Standards for Mathematical Practices Conference, beginning Friday afternoon, October 21, 2011, and continuing through Saturday evening. The conference will bring together experts from the fields of mathematics and mathematics education, including mathematicians, teacher educators, researchers, and classroom teachers, to discuss the nationwide problem of operationalizing and implementing the processes and proficiencies embedded in mathematical practice standards from the Common Core State Standards in K-12 classrooms in meaningful, high-quality ways. The plenary speakers for the conference are: Hyman Bass, University of Michigan; Sybilla Beckmann, University of Georgia; Mark Driscoll, Education Development Center; Matthew Larson, Lincoln Public Schools; and Bill McCallum, University of Arizona. There will also be concurrent breakout sessions with invited speakers. We know that many of you in the MSP community are grappling with enacting the Common Core State Standards in your work with math teachers, and thus believe you will find this conference to be interesting to your work. Immediately following the conference, we will be honoring Jim Lewis's many contributions to math education at a Saturday evening banquet.

Limited travel support is available. Travel funds will be awarded to those who request support by 9/15; if the initial requests do not exhaust our travel budget, we will award additional funds to later registrants.

Registration is now open to attend the Enacting Standards for Mathematical Practices Conference, Oct. 21-22, 2011, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
