Description:
Discovery Research K-12 (DR-K12) Program Solicitation Webinar

The Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings invites you to participate in a Webinar to discuss the Discovery Research K-12 (DR-K12) program announcement (NSF 08-502), which is a substantial revision to the previous solicitation.

The DR-K12 program advances K-12 student and teacher learning of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines through research, development, and implementation of innovative resources, models, and technologies. DR-K12 supports the development of instructional materials, curricular frameworks and learning progressions, models of teacher education and professional development, and innovative technologies for learning, as well as research studies of their implementation and impact.

The solicitation calls for proposals in two strands:
1. The Contextual Challenges strand addresses more immediate and pressing challenges facing K-12 STEM education: How can assessment of relevant STEM content improve K-12 teaching and learning?; How can the learning of significant STEM content be achieved to ensure public literacy and workforce readiness?
2. The Frontier Challenges strand supports initiatives on the frontier of knowledge that challenge existing assumptions about teaching and learning in STEM and offer a vision of the future: How can all students be assured the opportunity to learn significant STEM content?; What will support STEM teachers' practice and development in an era of cyber-enabled learning?; How can the impact of K-12 STEM classroom learning be enhanced by effective integration with local and global resources and systems?

DR-K12 program officers will discuss these strands and other aspects of the solicitation in more detail and respond to questions from Webinar participants.

Two Webinars are scheduled:

Wednesday, December 5, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. EST

Monday, December 10, 3:30 - 5 p.m. EST
