Event: Pre-Conference Workshop: Application of New Data Tools in Evaluation of Math and Science Initiatives

Jan 25, 2007
1:00 PM - 6:00 PM Eastern

Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
Washington, DC

Each MSP supported by NSF grants has developed an evaluation plan, and most partnerships have multiple methods of evaluating the effects of the initiatives to improve math and science teaching and learning. One MSP RETA project led by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) has developed and tested a model for measuring change in curriculum and instruction in math and science using a standardized teacher survey tool and procedures for determining alignment of instruction to standards and assessments. Through the support of NSF, CCSSO is convening a pre-conference workshop that will provide MSP evaluators and project staff with the results of the CCSSO MSP RETA study and a demonstration of how the data tools can be applied to evaluation of different initiatives.

The workshop will also highlight examples of the use of longitudinal data systems for measuring gains in student achievement in relation to program improvement initiatives. The latter session will demonstrate specific statistical analyses that have been used with large-scale assessment programs to measure program effects.

Confirmed session presenters for this special workshop are: John Smithson, University of Wisconsin-Madison (Surveys of Enacted Curriculum and measuring change), Andrew Porter, Vanderbilt University (alignment analysis of instruction, standards and assessments), Pete Goldschmidt, UCLA/CRESST (longitudinal analysis of student achievement data) and Rolf Blank, CCSSO (analysis of professional development quality).

Participants in the January 26-27 MSP Learning Network Conference are invited to participate in this pre-conference workshop focused on evaluation at no additional charge. However, space is limited to 60 participants. The workshop registration form is now available. Click the link below to register.
