Smithsonian NSRC Science Education Leadership Development and Strategic Planning Institutes

The National Science Resources Center is proud to announce the 2009 schedule for the Science Education Leadership Development and Strategic Planning Institutes. Over the past ten years, more than 1200 school districts have participated in the 65 Science Education Leadership Development Strategic Planning Institutes and are implementing systemic improvement of their K-12 science education programs.

The institutes guide school district leadership teams through creating a strategic plan for initiating and implementing an effective research-based science education program. During this five and a half-day institute of interactive workshops and discussions, leadership teams will: Develop a five-year strategic plan; Address the NSRC's five elements of reform: curriculum, professional development, materials support, assessment, and administrative and community support; Explore current research about how students learn, cognitive development and motivation; and Examine exemplary research-based K-12 science curricula.
