Education Programs Manager

The Biotechnology Institute (, the national educational organization for biotechnology, seeks an outstanding candidate to fill the position of Education Programs Manager. The mission of the Institute is to support teachers and educate students about biotechnology and its potential for solving human health, food and environmental problems. The Institute is located in Arlington, VA. We seek an experienced capable administrator with knowledge of teacher-education programs to act as program manager for teacher training, schools systems and curriculum projects, under direction of the Vice President for Education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage teacher training workshops, including program development, completion, and implementation. Facilitate workshops, as needed, and manage presenters.
  • Measure project impacts such as science learned by students and teachers. Identify project highlights to be incorporated into appropriate outreach channels.
  • Develop and organize new educational programs, from conception to implementation, including evaluation with input and guidance from the Vice President for Education.
  • Identify resources and information regarding best educational practices to achieve project goals (e.g. the National Science Education Standards, assessment techniques, research on learning...); showcase examples of "best practices or what works" to assist all projects for dissemination.
  • Manage federal, state and foundation grants, including expenses and compliance, and provide regular updates for all education programs.

    Qualifications include:
  • A Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred.
  • Ten years work experience, five to seven in program management. Ability to provide independent leadership is expected.
  • A background in science education is advantageous. Knowledge in science is also important.
  • Strong communication and computer skills are required.
  • The candidate must enjoy working with a fast-paced professional team that is rapidly expanding Institute programs and national image.
