Designing Effective Professional Development: Lessons from the Eisenhower Program

Abstract

This recent U.S. Department of Education publication discusses lessons learned from the Eisenhower Program, which "aims to support high-quality professional development to help teachers meet the demands of teaching to high standards." This publication examines the effectiveness of Eisenhower professional development programs based on six best practice features: reform type, duration, collective participation, content focus, active learning, and coherence.
