Let Teachers Work and Learn in Teams - Like Professionals

Abstract

"To get the best performance out of K-12 teachers, we should follow the practices of countries with high-achieving students--namely, treat teachers like professionals and have them serve in teams that work on specific tasks or projects related to instruction. Teachers in top-performing countries spend less hours in front of/with students and more in collegial, task-oriented teams. From planning lessons together to revising curricula to jointly exploring data, such teamwork helps teachers learn together, be mutually accountable, and improve things for students. Tucker suggests ways to make this teacher collaboration possible in U.S. schools."
