Perspectives of Irreplaceable Teachers

Abstract

"In 2013, we reached out to 117 of America's best teachers, including winners of many elite teaching awards, to find out what they think about their classrooms and their careers.

Our goal was not to generate a scientifically representative sample, but to listen carefully and represent their views as faithfully as possible--because we believe that seeking out the views of great teachers is a critical part of strengthening the teaching profession.

Perspectives of Irreplaceable Teachers explains what we heard. The report focuses on three broad topics of immediate relevance to policymakers: What does effective (and ineffective) teaching look like? How do the best teachers become so effective? And what do great teachers think about their profession?"
