SCALE Professional Development and Agile Mind Implementation and Use Analysis

Abstract

The SCALE Professional Development and Agile Mind Implementation and Use Analysis analyzes two of the SCALE Professional Development initiatives developed and implemented by SCALE partners in the Los Angeles area - the CSUDH Mathematics Institutes and Agile Mind Biology (AMB) Institute - that featured training in math or science content, pedagogical content, and Agile Mind technologies. SCALE Professional Development (PD) institutes in mathematics and science were developed and delivered in conjunction with SCALE partners Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), and Agile Mind (AM). Intended as a formative implementation evaluation, the purpose is to learn how teachers who received SCALE professional development transferred what they learned to the classroom, with an emphasis on determining what factors facilitated or hindered implementation and use of professional development strategies and Agile Mind resources. The evaluation focuses on Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) teachers who participated in the SCALE Agile Mind Biology Institutes (2008-2009) and the CSUDH Mathematics Institutes (2008-2010).
