Sight/Insight Hubble Space Telescope Website

Description

Spectacular sights, unexpected insights -- the Hubble Space Telescope has brought us both. On the Sight/Insight website, students and educators can learn about the repairs and enhancements that NASA professionals at the Goddard Space Flight Center have engineered in preparation for the 2009 servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). A collegiate case study focuses on the Hubble legacy and how human ingenuity and a "failure is not an option" attitude have contributed to the improvement and maintenance of the HST. A project-based learning takes high school students through the steps of a problem-solving process (SIMILAR) as they design an astronaut tool to resolve a specific problem on the HST. Through these resources, students will gain insights about the professionals at NASA involved in bringing Hubble's extraordinary discoveries to the world.
