The folders/files on this CD hold the materials for a 45 clock-hour course in geometry, a course designed for teachers of grades 5-8. One folder also holds syllabi for seven other courses of the University of Wyoming's Middle-level Mathematics Program.
The Overview Geometry Folder
The Overview Geometry folder contains five numbered files regarding the Connecting Geometry course.
01-Dear Colleague Letter. This letter from the course developers provides an overview of the structure and content of the course materials for Connecting Geometry and tells a bit about the choices that led to that structure and content.
02-Geometry Course Syllabus. This was the syllabus as provided to the participants. It overviews course goals, content, materials, student assessment, and course assessment.
03-Geometry Matrix of Sessions. The matrix provides a session-by-session correspondence of main goals, relevant Wyoming mathematics content standards, relevant NCTM content and process standards, related question(s) from the classroom, focal problem-solving strategies, and a list of investigative tools.
04-Geometry Problem-solving Strategies. This single sheet names 16 specific problem-solving strategies, 15 of which were modeled by instructors and used by participants in Connecting Geometry. A handout in the folder for Measurement Session 1 (folder Ses-01MB) expands on each named strategy by providing at least one example.
05-Geometry Scoring Rubric. This focused holistic scoring rubric was used in assessing participants' work in Connecting Geometry. Participants were encouraged to use it with their students.
Folders Ses-01MB through Ses-15MB
These folders contain details for each of the 15 measurement-based sessions of Connecting Geometry. Each folder has a detailed lesson plan. There also are transparency masters, quizzes, and participant handouts for in-class use and homework.
Folders Ses-01TB through Ses-15TB
These folders contain details for each of the 15 transformations-based sessions of Connecting Geometry. Each folder has a detailed lesson plan. There also are transparency masters, quizzes, and participant handouts for in-class use and homework.
The Seven MMP Syllabi Folder
Connecting Geometry was one of eight courses developed for the Middle-level Mathematics Program at the University of Wyoming. Brief syllabi for the other seven courses are in this folder.
