Communicating Science: Roundtable Summary


"This roundtable explored the challenges confronting science educators in presenting and communicating science in contemporary society. Informal science institutions (ISIs) and teachers are "knowledge intermediaries" (Irwin, 1995) between science and its wider public. However, one of the problems, for both the public and for science's intermediaries, is that science is a cumulative discourse of ever-increasing complexity. Not only can the knowledge be difficult to comprehend, but the process by which such knowledge is derived and validated itself is also poorly understood."
