Abstract

Comparing and contrasting the results from the 2003 PISA and TIMSS studies, this article examines the performance of U.S. students on two recent exams that were administered internationally. Results show that "American students suffer from an inability to perform complex reasoning and mathematical assignments -- the kind they are likely to encounter in college and the workplace."
